                     FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

              The Second International Conference on
                    Systems Biology (ICSB2001)
                        Nov 5 - 7, 2001

         California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA
                 http://www.systems-biology.org

[OVERVIEW]
==========

The need for systems-level understanding of biological processes is
receiving increased recognition. Advances in Systems Biology will
have a major impact on all areas of biology in the 21st Century. The
Second International Conference on Systems Biology (ICSB2001) will
bring together researchers working in Systems Biology and related
areas to present the current status of their research and to discuss
future directions for the field.

Following the success of the first conference (ICSB2000) in Tokyo on
November 14-16, 2000, ICSB2001 will be held at the California
Institute of Technology with a series of affiliated workshops and
tutorials.

The conference will feature original, refereed papers, software
demonstrations, posters, and introductory and advanced
tutorials. Papers will be published in an archival proceeding, and
the proceedings will be provided to participants as a bound volume at
the conference. The detailed schedule of the conference will be
announced shortly at the website http://www.systems-biology.org.

[TOPICS]
========

Topics include (but are not limited to):
* Methodologies for systems-level understanding of living organisms
* Tools and technologies for Systems Biology (software,
  high-throughput assay, high precision, quantitative measurement,etc.)
* Systems-level analysis of biological systems (such as control theory
  analysis, bifurcation analysis, etc.)
* Reverse engineering of gene regulatory and metabolic networks from
  data
* Prediction of genes and metabolic pathways based on systems-level
  analysis
* Large-scale databases for systems biology
* Experimental techniques for comprehensive and high-precision
  measurement
* Control of cells and biological systems
* Preemptive molecular medicine
* Medical applications

[KEYNOTE SPEAKERS]

To be announced.

[LOCATION]
==========

The three-day conference and additional tutorial sessions will be held
at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). For more
information about Caltech please visit the following web site:

[SUBMISSION INFORMATION]
========================

Attendees are invited to submit papers for oral presentation at
ICSB2001. Submitted papers should be a maximum of 12 pages (including
title, abstract, figures, tables, and bibliography), single-spaced,
and set in 12 point type. The first page should give keywords, postal
and electronic mailing addresses, as well as telephone and fax
numbers. ICSB2001 welcomes proposals for half-day or full-day
introductory or advanced tutorials. The tutorials will be given on
Sunday, Nov 4, prior to the meeting. Short proposals must be received
by Apr 1, 2001, and a full, 3-page proposal must be received by Apr
15, 2001.

If you wish to present a poster at ICSB2001, please submit a short
poster abstract (up to 2 pages) before Sep 2, 2001.

Questions pertaining to the submission of papers, posters, and
tutorial proposals should be addressed to:
