An Eli-quent presentation

This week we are graced with a two-part presentation by Eli Meir of the
famed Odell lab. Do come and bring a friend.

As always: Wed, Fri at 1230 in 114 Kincaid Hall.

Fly-by-night patterns!

I'll be talking about both modeling and experimental work looking at
the robustness of patterning mechanisms in fly development. I'll
start out on wednesday with some experimental tests of a model result
that George von Dassow talked about a couple years ago in Math Bio
(the amazing robustness of the segment polarity network). Then on
friday I'll say why our original robustness results are not using a
very good test for robustness, present a couple other more
interesting robustness tests, and finally try to build an
evolutionary story for how a network could be built up from small to
big (ala Darwin's example of how eyes might have evolved).
