The Applied Mathematics Department offers full-time Masters and Doctoral programs, as well as a Professional Masters program. We also participate in the Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences undergraduate program, and educate more than 500 students each year in our introductory courses.

Graduate Programs

The department has roughly 40 students in the full-time graduate program. We typically award four Ph.D. degrees and ten Masters degrees each year.

We offer admission to approximately 25% of those who apply to our graduate program.

Our recent Ph.D. graduates are working in the local computer and biotech industry in companies such as Cray and Immunex, in U.S. Government research at NASA, NOAA, and NCAR, and at major universities including Courant, Michigan, and Stanford.

In Autumn 1998 we introduced the Professional Masters Program designed for those students who do not have the time to pursue a Ph.D., but do wish to learn skills that will help them take advantage of job opportunities in the region's burgeoning information and bio-technology industries. The department also offers an online Master of Science degree.

There is an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Computational Molecular Biology involving several departments in the biological and mathematical sciences, including Applied Mathematics.
