Important Announcements and Useful Hints
- 3/14/03: The m-files for the pendulum problem discussed in class today
are posted in the pendulum directory. The graphics
I showed of aerodynamic simulations came from a
NASA
website. Nice simulations of other fluid flow problems can be found on
the web at various sites, for example the
NCAR
website (National Center for Atmospheric Research).
- 3/12/03: Review session Tuesday March 18, 5:00 - 6:30pm in GUG 410.
Office hours: Marica Pelanti Monday 3/17 and Wednesday 3/19, 3:30 -
5:00
I will have office hours Tuesday and Wednesday 10-11 and
Wednesday 1:30-2:30, or by appointment.
- 3/12/03: Correction to HW 8 #4(a) and (d): The expression given for
Iexact is wrong! It should involve erf(50) and erf(40) instead of erf(5)
and erf(4). Also the factor sqrt(pi)/10 should be sqrt(pi)/20.
- 3/5/03: Another Correction to HW 7, #4(f). The second displayed equation
should read
P_1'(x_2) = f'(x_2) - 1/2 h f''(x_2) + O(h^2)
(The first h^3 on the assignment should be h^2)
- 3/4/03: Correction to HW 7, #4(f). The second displayed equation
should read
P_1'(x_2) = f'(x_2) - 1/2 h f''(x_2) + O(h^3)
(The first + on the assignment should be -)
- 2/24/03: Midterm #2 is Friday 2/28. There will be a review
session Wednesday 2/26 3:30--5:00 in Guggenheim 410.
Our office hours will be in GUG this week rather than the MSCC lab.
I will have different office hours than usual this week:
Tuesday 3:30 - 4:30, Wednesday 1:30-2:30, Thursday 9-10 and 3-4,
and no office hours Friday.
- 2/8/03: I will be out of town at a
SIAM conference
Monday 2/9 through Thursday 2/12. Marica Pelanti will lecture Monday and
Wednesday, and will also be available during my office hours on Wednesday at
1:30 (at her Guggenheim office) and Thursday 9-10 (at the MSCC lab). I will
be at MSCC for my Friday 9-10 office hours. I should be responding to email
if problems arise during the week.
- 2/2/03: Midterm #2 is now scheduled for Friday, February 28 (instead of
February 26 as originally announced).
- 1/28/03: The first midterm is Friday 1/31. There will be review
sessions Wednesday 1/29 at 3:30 and 5:30 in Guggenheim 410.
- 1/28/03: Office hours this week will be in our Guggenheim offices
instead of the MSCC lab since there is no homework due.
- 1/10/03: See the B-022 schedule on the
MSCC lab webpage
for the "Matlab
help desk" schedule, currently Thursday 3:30-5:30 and Friday 11:30-1:30.
These are the hours Bela Frigyik will be in the lab, a grad student who can
also help with homework questions. (This week and next he is out of town
and Mariana Carrasco Teja will be there instead.)
- 1/8/03: Correction on HW1 #4(b). Please replace sin(x) by sin(8x).
- 1/6/03: There will be two introductory sessions in the MSCC lab this
week: Tuesday 1/7 at 4:30pm and Thursday 1/9 at 12:30pm, in CMU B027.
I will demonstrate how to use some basic features.
