I received my bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hong Kong in 2006. During my time in Hong Kong I mostly studied fluid mechanics and specifically nonlinear water waves under the supervision of Prof. K. W. Chow. After graduating I moved to Seattle where I obtained my master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington in 2008. Now I am working towards a Ph.D.

Research Interests

My research falls under the broad scope of differential equations, nonlinear wave propagation, dynamical systems, perturbation and asymptotic methods. I am currently working with Prof. J. Nathan Kutz on the theory of passive mode-locking in optical fibers. Specifically I study the polarization dynamics of optical solitons in the context of complex Ginzburg-Landau type equations with both cubic and quintic nonlinearities as well as gain saturation.
