Title:

Numerical Methods for large eigenvalue problems

Time: 3:30 PM, Thursday, 4/28/05

Place: Guggenheim Room 408d

Abstract:

Large eigenvalue problems arise in a variety of settings. Two important areas are vibrational analysis of structures and linear stability analysis of fluid flow. In both of these settings only a few eigenvalues are of interest. Since these problems can become very large, we have to use iterative methods. Several methods are presented and applied to an eigenvalue problem arising from linear stability analysis of a shear layer.
