Title:

Investigating the Nonlinear Baroclinic Adjustment Problem

Time: 3:30 PM, Thursday, 02/24/05

Place: Guggenheim Room 408d

Abstract:

Despite large differences in the radiative forcing of the midlatitude atmosphere, the observed north-south temperature gradient remains relatively constant. The mechanism of baroclinic adjustment was introduced to explain the phenomenon. I will explain the concept of nonlinear baroclinic adjustment and discuss ideas to further develop the theory.
