Title:

LU Factorization

Date: Thursday, November 30, 2006

Time: 2:30 - 3:20pm

Place: Condon Room 311 (next to the Design Coffee Shop)

Abstract. I will talk about LU factorization. What it is, how you use it, and for what do you use it. I will even talk about an algorithm that uses it as an inspiration to find eigenvalues down to 10^(-309)! This is pretty small on a computer with a machine epsilon of 10^(-16). Examples in matlab will be given and questions about jasons fanatical devotion to the pope will be entertained.
